New generation of HD-Telemedicine systems available
MEYTEC has produced and delivered the next generation of High Definition Telemedicine systems in 2018. These are the telemedicine systems for clinical deployment: VIMED® DOC 3 HD+ and VIMED® DOC BASIC 3 HD+ as well as new mobile workstations VIMED® TELEDOC 4/5 HD+. They are characterized by improved audiovisual performance and comply with the newest international standards for video compression (optional up to H.265). The mobile telemedicine workstations are equipped with HD video camera with 20x optical zoom performance. The uninterruptible power supply (UPS) technology of the wireless workstations VIMED® TELEDOC 5 have also been updated. The new generation is technically superior for the deployment in new telemedicine environments with medical products and for the routing of medical data.

ANNOTeM project sponsored by the German Innovation Fund with Homepage
The technical equipment of the project “Acute neurological care in North-East Germany (ANNOTeM)” was largely delivered by MEYTEC. To that end, there is a growing acceptance by doctors from the partnering hospitals to the latest technology deployed. In turn, this has translated to an increase in the number of patients, month on month, treated successful in local hospitals by telemedicine consultants. Meanwhile the ANNOTeM network received its first member from Saxonia-Anhalt – hospital Gardelegen. First Stroke Emergency Mobile (STEMO) is replaced by the new version of STEMO 2.0
The firstSTEMO, deployed for the earliest possible prehospital emergency stroke care in Berlin-Wilmersdorf as a scientific platform of the Charité University Medicine and the Berlin Fire Department, was decommissioned after 6 years of daily operation in November 2017. During this 6 year period staff on board STEMO treated a significant number of patients in a prehospital environment. The first evaluations showed, that this innovative stroke care pathway concept for patients, with an acute stroke, proved equally as secure as the treatment within an established stroke unit. The first version of STEMO was replaced by the new STEMO 2.0 and relocated to the Fire Department station in Charlottenburg North.

The second STEMO 2.0 is in Berlin’s city district Marzahn-Hellersdorf in daily use
The second Stroke Emergency Mobile has become an everyday sight to the citizens of East Berlin. The deployment of STEMO at the first-aid-station by the Emergency Hospital (UKB) emphasizes the leading role of UKB in the emergency treatment of stroke patients.
The third Stroke Emergency Mobile (STEMO 2.0) started in Berlin-Neukölln
In April 2018 the third Stroke Emergency Mobile was deployed at the rescue station Mariendorf in Berlin-Neukölln. It is the third mobile emergency stroke unit in Berlin. The medical emergency care is delivered by doctors and MTRAs from Vivantes Hospital in Neukölln. The deployment of a third STEMO has ensured full coverage of the city of Berlin and with it faster and efficient prehospital emergency care.
The optimal distribution of the mobile emergency vehicles within the city area of Berlin enables the STEMO fleet to reach and supply care to a high number of patients with stroke symptoms. The “time is brain” rule means, that especially “the golden hour” after the onset is a significant time frame for an early start of diagnostics and commencement of therapy to achieve more positive effect for patient outcome. The deployment of STEMO contributes also to the consolidation of previous trial data and to confirmation of the positive scientific outcomes, as well as to verify long-term positive development. The diagnostic and therapeutic methods delivered on board of STEMO are comparable to those of a specialist stroke unit.
The first treatment results within the “golden hour” on board STEMO show, that Berlin has a leading position in the medical utilization of this innovative care concept worldwide. This approach is meeting with a great deal of interest in different countries worldwide and will no doubt be implemented in more and more countries as pilot projects.

The 4th STEMO 2.0 as reserve solution available
In addition to the three active STEMOs, there is fourth STEMO available in Berlin as a reserve stroke emergency mobile unit. It is ready and configured for immediate deployment to any of the three STEMO base locations: Charité, UKB and Vivantes. The reserve STEMO will be deployed in case of the technical problems or scheduled maintenance work affecting one of the active STEMOs. This provision will ensure continual comprehensive emergency stroke care in Berlin.
MEYTEC’s technical staff provides the full service to all medical, lab and telemedical equipment on board of the STEMO. MEYTEC has a long-term expertise in this area based on the practical experience gained with service and support provided to the first STEMO.

Project „Bavarian Tele-Emergency Doctor“ goes in district Straubing on start
In December 2017 the project “Bavarian Tele-Emergency Doctor (ger: “Telenotarzt Bayern”)” started in the emergency district Straubing, sponsored by the German Innovation Fund and Bavarian Health Insurance Funds. The model region includes the districts Straubing-Bogen, Deggendorf and Regen in the Bavarian Forest area.
IQ medworks from Bavaria is responsible for the project implementation, with MEYTEC tasked with. the installation of a fixed workstation for the tele-emergency doctor in the Integrated Control Center operated by the Bavarian Red Cross organization in Straubing, as well as technology in 21 emergency vehicles in collaboration with other technological partners.
MEYTEC’s technical team has integrated our innovative communication hub, VIMED® CAR 3, which includes a remote controllable PTZ-video camera, audio system and antennas. During the collection of/and transportation of a patient in the ambulance, there is ensured a bidirectional live-video and audio-connection to the remote emergency doctor. A special feature of VIMED® CAR 3 is the bonding of two data channels from different network providers, to deliver the necessary bandwidth to link the vehicle staff with the remote emergency doctor in the rural regions of Bavaria.
The full utilization of the pilot project “Bavarian Tele-Emergency Doctor” with all equipped emergency vehicles started in the beginning of July 2018. The minister of the interior in Bavaria Joachim Herrmann visited Straubing at the 22th of August 2018 and commented: “Nearly two months ago we started the model test of the Tele-Emergency Doctor with 21 emergency vehicles in whole emergency district of Straubing and to date feedback is very positive”.

First Tele-Neuro-Intensive medicine network in Thuringia
Under the leadership of Dr. Albrecht Günther, Senior Physician of the Clinic for Neurology within the University Hospital Jena (Hospital director: Prof. Dr. Otto W. Witte) started the first Tele-Neuro-Intensive medicine network. Up to now there are hospitals in Arnstadt, Rudolstadt and Schleiz part of this new network by UKJ. With funding from the Ministry of Labour, Social, Health and Family of Thuringia, the intensive care units of the 3 partner hospitals were equipped with new telemedicine systems VIMED® TELEDOC-ICU, which meet the special requirements for the intensive care stations. The basis for the networking is the telemedicine network SATELIT, ensuring a smooth start to the project. After the initial phase the new telemedicine network operates daily. The remote experts from the University Hospital in Jena support their medical partners from Intensive Care Units via tele-neurointensive consultations.

Project for Tele-Palliative care in Bavaria meets expectations
Under the leadership of Prof. Stefan Lorenzl, the chief physician for neurology and palliative care at Hausham hospital, a new telemedicine project commenced in 2017, sponsored by the Federal State of Bavaria. MEYTEC delivered a laptop preloaded with MEYDOC® our new software for video communication, as well as the associated telemedicine equipment for six palliative care teams in Bavaria. The telemedicine equipment includes: smartphones and mobile hotspots situated to provide a bespoke solution. The smartphones are equipped with LTE-SIMs provided by Vodafone and the LTE-SIMs for WiFi-hotspots are provided by the mobile network operator German Telekom. The end-users rated highly the video consultations carried out within the project. In case of poor network quality the user can switch to the alternative LTE mobile network automatically.
While smartphones have proven successful, it is intended that they will be supplemented with Windows® tablets in the future. The latest results of the trial were presented by the project leader Dr. Chrisitane Weck at annual meeting of the neurologist DGN 2018 in Berlin. Further palliative teams will be equipped with the technology soon.

Cluster conference Health Economy of Berlin-Brandenburg 2018
The annual cluster conference “Health Economy of Berlin-Brandenburg 2018” was held in the federal state of Brandenburg in Berlin. The policy makers were represented by the state secretaries for economics from Berlin and Brandenburg. Within the session “New types of the healthcare” Gerhard W. Meyer, managing director by MEYTEC, introduced technological aspects of the new supply project “Acute neurological care in the Northern-East Germany (ANNOTeM)” sponsored by the German Innovation Fund. The importance of this network was acknowledged by the conference for increasing the number of treatment cases. Gerhard W. Meyer valued the project as a realistic option to ensure an excellent emergency care in the rural regions overcoming the limitations brought about by the lack of medical specialists on site. He also promoted at the end of his speech, to use the established teleneurological network infrastructure for the new types of health care, including telepediatrics and teleintensive care.
